It was a new, bold venture unlike any other in the State of New Jersey. The purpose of the program is to give qualified, properly motivated drug dependent people at the county jail a chance at life by taking the valuable hours, days, weeks and months where the inmates lives are basically on hold and give them an opportunity to get their lives back on track. ASAP has paid rich dividends in its short existence, not only to the residents of the program, but to the community as well. There are now over one hundred and fifty graduates of ASAP. Many of the program's graduates are out in the workforce receiving a paycheck, supporting their dependents and paying taxes rather than being a drain on society by being incarcerated in the county jail. The program has been fortunate to receive a substantial grant from the Rober Wood Johnson Foundation that has kept the program going.

On November 5, , the plaintiffs, nine pretrial detainees, filed this class action in the United States District Court of New Jersey. The plaintiffs sued Middlesex County under 42 U. The plaintiffs, represented by the ACLU and the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, asked the court to declare that the conditions in solitary confinement were unconstitutional, to enjoin Middlesex County to take all of its inmates out of solitary confinement, and to award costs and reasonable attorneys' fees. The plaintiffs claimed that the conditions in C-Pod, the solitary confinement unit in Middlesex County Jail, were unconstitutional. Specifically, the plaintiffs claimed that they were locked in a small cell alone almost continuously; could not interact with other inmates; could not be visited by family; could not participate in religious, educational or rehabilitative programs; and were never allowed outdoors.
Makes me SICK to read the website saying you care about inmates. My good friend hung himself while in your custody and was supposed to be on special watch and the "officers" faked the log books because they were too lazy to walk around every 20 minutes. Yes they got fired and my friends family sued but it didn't bring him back. How dare you spread lies about how good of a job you do. Goon squad too violent.
